Exterior view of natural gas facilities

Services

Natural gas is a versatile fuel but the most widespread use is usually associated with heating purposes. This also applies to Hungary and, as a consequence, natural gas consumption is highest in the winter period.

Natural gas is typically supplied to customers from two distinct sources: domestic production and import. Domestic production, i.e. operation of natural gas fields, is economically profitable only when hydrocarbon products are extracted at an even and stable production rate. Import sources can play a role in contributing to meet seasonal demands in a limited manner only, as it can be accessed at the most favourable price when in-flow into the country is also stable and permanent.

Summer excess and extra winter need for natural gas require appropriate management. Therefore, in the spring to autumn period, in preparation for the heating season in winter, natural gas is injected into the underground gas storage facilities. In winter the injected gas is withdrawn to meet the higher natural gas demand.

The role of underground natural gas storage facilities is essential in meeting such peak demand during the winter period, and in establishing and maintaining reasonable supply security.
In addition, the underground natural gas storage facilities are the most flexible elements of the Hungarian natural gas system. Market players are in a position to set up an appropriate optimum portfolio, which suits them best by using these facilities.

E.ON Földgáz Storage Zrt. is serving the storage needs both of the regulated and liberalized gas market players, thus ensuring the security of high level gas supply in the whole territory of Hungary.
